Robert L. Meade
began the study of music at the age of eight.
Following eight years of piano, he took up the study of organ
with William R. Dixon. For seven years he was organist of First
United Methodist Church in Saint Augustine. He also studied
organ with Kenneth E. Runkel, F.A.G.O., former organist of
Flagler Memorial Presbyterian Church in Saint Augustine.
One of the highlights of his career was serving
as acting organist of Memorial Presbyterian Church when their
new 90-rank Aeolian Skinner pipe organ was played for the first
time in a worship service. Later in 1970, he gave the second
dedication recital as part of the dedication series on the new
organ. Mr. Meade is concluding his program today with one of
the works he played in that dedication recital. Coincidentally,
the organ here at Grace United Methodist Church is a digital
replication of a 70-rank Aeolian Skinner organ. The current
organist here at Grace United Methodist Church, Mr. Meade is a
State-Certified General Contractor, having retired from the
family business, E.B. Meade & Sons

Meet our Music & Choir Director
Daniel B. Shorb, Sr

Daniel
was born in
Hanover, PA. He earned a B.A. Degree from Tennessee Temple
University in Chattanooga, and an M.A. Degree from the
University of Tennessee, Knoxville. One year after
graduation, Dan was invited back to Tennessee Temple to be
on the Music Faculty. He served there for 16 years.
Teaching numerous music courses, directing the University
Band and guiding over 20 piano and organ majors to the
Senior Recital. While in Chattanooga, he served the
Highland Park Baptist Church as organist.
Next, he came to Florida
and served the First United Methodist Church of Ocala for 10
years. There he administrated a large music program and
directed numerous choirs of all ages, hand bell groups, a
praise team, and started an orchestra. With a special
affinity for children, Dan developed a wide-ranging
children’s choir program, complete with hand chimes, hand
bells, and summer music camp. Called to Hilton Head Island,
South Carolina, to develop a music program, Dan served St.
Andrew by-the-Sea United Methodist Church for three years as
Director of Music/Organist. There he started and developed
two hand bell choirs, a praise choir, a children’s choir,
and a roster of soloists from only a small adult choir and
one paid soloist in place when he arrived. When Libby,
Dan ’s wife of 35 years, received a promotion and job offer
in St. Augustine, they gladly returned to the Florida they
had come to love. Dan commuted 60 miles to be Director of
Music at First United Methodist Church of Starke until
September 2007, when he became Director of Music at historic
Grace United Methodist Church in downtown Saint Augustine.
He currently serves as President of the Florida Chapter of
the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship
Arts. Dan has been playing the piano since the age of
five. In addition to the piano, he enjoys playing organ,
trumpet, and hand bells; composing and arranging; teaching
and conducting—almost anything in music. Dan and Libby have
three grown sons and two grandchildren.
